Still, with the hard data, I am sure a formula could be generated that would work. This could work and honestly it might even be more profitable for PGI however, this is based on guesses rather than hard data. If you play more than 17 hours per week which I think they majority do, then buying a full 30 day sub would make more sense. At that price 17 hours a week would be the break even point at 2480 MC cost. So for someone who only plays 10 hours a week or 40 hours a month, they would be paying roughly 1600 MC or 900 MC less than having a sub. Therefore if they were going to sell it hourly they would need it to be at least 40 MC per hour to equal the same general profitability. This would equal out to being about 25 MC per hour at the current MC cost of a 30 day sub. Now I will say, I wouldn't necessarily mind being able to purchase by the hour and being able to use it in 1 hour blocks but it would have to be priced so that hourly is more expensive than monthly to keep the game profitable.įor example, if we calculate that the average player on a monthly subscription plays 6 hours a day, 7 days a week, that is roughly 180 hours played in any given month. MWO has to make more money than that to keep providing service. So if I could have paused my subscription time when out of battle, I could have played for over 2 years on one $15 purchase. In WoTs I have over 7000 battles but my time in actual battle is only like 25 Days. Premium time sales would tank, which means PGI would need to focus even more on creating more Mechs and cosmetics to sell. How many people have even hit 720 hours of in game time? Only the most hardcore and dedicated would ever need more than a month of premium. If this 720 hours only counted down during play then a very large majority of players would only ever need this 1 month (which is only $15). A month, or 30 days, of premium time equates to 720 hours. Second of all, you could likely make a single purchase of premium time and never need any more after that. First of all, if premium time only expired while you were playing, it would have to be orders of magnitude more expensive, which would likely limit how much of it you buy.
